Camping
You may think you’re a bit of Bear Grylls when it comes to outdoor survival skills, but not everyone is. So here is a brief list of the things you’ll need to remember to have a successful camping stay with us.
Please check the fire regulations, the safety advice and site rules so you know the score.
Where do I stay?
Most people stay on site camping in our tent villages across the site. These are collections of people's own tents allocated by the postcode of your church or group, so make sure you put that church’s details and postcode on your booking form. Booking deadline 30 June 2010.
Some people bring a caravan or camper van and a fixed number of electrical hook ups are available for purchase, if booked by 30 June 2010. Please note than caravans and campervans may not always be positioned next to the tents from the same group due to available space.
Alhough some of us love the idea of living under the starry night sky for a few days, you might not own a tent, know how to put one up or would just prefer a caravan! If you want to hire a caravan, you might want to check out the Caravan Club website for information and suppliers.
Please note that RIVERcamp does not hire caravans or tents, though you are free to make your own arrangements with suppliers. Any such agreement and costs will be between yourself and the supplier.
Don’t forget – Tent Poles, Pegs and Mallet
It might sound stupid, but each year group of campers turn up and don’t have the right tent poles to erect their own tent. So make sure you check your tents before leaving to ensure you have everything you need, including ground sheets and tent pegs. You’d also do well to have a mallet! So don’t forget the essentials.
Don’t forget – bring a torch, sleeping bag and food
It gets very dark out in the countryside so bring a torch to help you see your way on a late night stroll. It gets dark soon after the evening meetings start. Plus, if you're cooking your own food then make sure you bring a stove and something to store food in (a cool bag or ice box). Sleeping bags help keep you warm as you sleep. You might want a fleece and something to lie on as well!
Don’t forget – Watch the weather. Bring warm and waterproof clothes
Although God might shine His face upon us during the week, the sun might not. Some summers have some serious rainy weather, so make sure you're prepared with a lot of water proof bags (for your clothes and food) and some trendy cagoules, wellies and warm clothes for the evenings. Your friends may laugh at you, but they'll be begging to borrow your wellingtons or coat if the weather turns!
Fire Regulations
Lots of tents, barbeques and sleepy people results in a nightmare situation for the fire service. Therefore we have a few fire regulations you need to consider and burn into your memory. Smoking is not permitted in or near any of the venues at RIVERcamp. Smoking is not allowed in tents or caravans. Tents and caravans need to be 3m apart from each other to allow fire access and minimise spread of fire.
Off site
If you want to stay offsite, there are a variety of Local Bed and Breakfasts, hotels, etc in the locality. Here are some useful links to help your search, but please note that we are endorsing or recommending any of this accommodation to you.
