Mission has always been a key value of RIVERcamp and each year an offering is taken and the funds are then given away.  Why?  Becuase we believe that God wants to bless us ‘beyond ourselves’ and enlarge our hearts for the needs of others.

In 2011, a decision was made to give the RIVERcamp offering to Elim International Missions’ Freedom Project and to those who ministered at the camp. This project has been set up to rescue women and children from the sex industry. Human Trafficking is now the world’s fastest growing illegal trade. It is impossible not to be moved by the plight of children suffering at the hands of those who would seek to exploit and abuse them. Indeed Scripture teaches:

“If anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.”  Matthew 18:6

During RIVERcamp, Pastor Che Ahn of Harvest Rock Church, Los Angeles, spoke powerfully about the need to give and to bless those less fortunate. His message was inspirational and laid a foundation for the offering which was later given. The Freedom Project video was presented and many were moved to see footage of young girls in Cambodia, waiting in line to ‘service the needs’ of their waiting ‘customers’.

The offering taken raised an incredible £70,000 for the Freedom Project. The monies given came not because of any manipulation, but from hearts truly moved by the incredible injustice towards children which exists in our world today.

When presented with the cheque for £70,000, Chris Jones, Elim International Missions Director, said he and everyone in the Elim Missions team were overwhelmed by the generosity of God’s people at River Camp. He went on to say that the money will be used to transform the lives of women and children, bringing them freedom from their abusive captivity, placing them in a loving Christian environment.
